Genesis GV90 debuts with coach doors and luxury interior

The 2027 Genesis GV90 will serve as the luxury brand’s new flagship SUV, combining a 657-horsepower electric powertrain with a claimed 310-mile driving range. Two versions will be available: a standard three-row model with conventional doors and the GV90 Neolun, which features coach-style rear doors and a four-seat VIP configuration.

Size and platform set it apart from rivals

Measuring 208 inches long, the GV90 surpasses the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV in size. It uses Genesis’s eMP platform, which the brand calls unique, though it shares similarities with Hyundai Group’s eGMP architecture found in other electric models.

The standard version accommodates six or seven passengers, with second-row captain’s chairs available in the six-seat layout. The Neolun will debut as a limited First Edition with four seats, though later production runs will include a three-row, six-seat option.

All Neolun variants feature coach doors with a concealed B-pillar, creating a wide, unobstructed entry when both front and rear doors open. A dual-motion hinge allows the rear doors to slide back before swinging outward, operating independently of the front doors.

Luxury features push boundaries

The Neolun’s interior emphasizes opulence, offering standard 24-inch wheels, a wood veneer floor, unique upholstery choices, and front seats that rotate 180 degrees to form a lounge-like space when parked. The cabin includes two-tone color schemes like indigo and green or purple and beige.

Every GV90 comes with a dual-motor setup and a 124-kWh battery pack—larger than the 110-kWh unit in Hyundai’s Ioniq 9. Despite its capacity, the SUV’s range trails competitors like Rivian and Lucid, which exceed 400 miles per charge. The vehicle can recharge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes using a 350-kW DC fast-charger.

An air-spring suspension with height adjustment and rear-wheel steering enhances handling. Thick acoustic glass ensures cabin quietness, while a 23.6-inch OLED touchscreen runs Genesis’s Pleos Connect infotainment system. The display can extend upward by 3.4 inches when parked for video viewing.

Genesis replaced the traditional start button with an EV-style interface that activates when the driver approaches and opens the door. Pressing the brake pedal then readies the vehicle for driving.

Sixteen exterior colors will be offered, including gloss and matte finishes. The Neolun First Edition will feature special

Automakers have occasionally used coach doors in modern luxury vehicles, though such designs typically appear in limited-production or concept models. The GV90’s approach—offering both conventional and coach-door options—may indicate growing acceptance of the feature, even if restricted to high-end trims.

The SUV’s design closely follows the Neolun concept, featuring distinctive lighting and a bold front fascia. Genesis has not confirmed an on-sale date, but the model marks the brand’s most ambitious effort to compete in the high-end electric vehicle segment.
